Muhak Daesa (無學大師, 1327–1405)
The monk who advised Taejo, and the figure enshrined at Guksadang.
Muhak was a monk of the late Goryeo and early Joseon period, remembered as the adviser to Taejo Yi Seong-gye at the founding of the dynasty and in the choice of a capital. He is the figure enshrined at Guksadang on Inwangsan, and the shrine’s name is said to come from that. The site itself was chosen when the shrine was forced off Namsan in 1925: it is said to be where Taejo and Muhak once prayed.
